The limitless human potential is often deeply hidden within us, not just beneath our psyche, but also within the layers of conscious and unconscious patterning. Unlocking them to fully manifest into our life is a key aspect of personal growth and spiritual development. This arduous and potent process requires sustained effort and the practice of powerful tools, under careful guidance and supervision.

The role of Bandha-s can serve as a vital instrument in this process of personal evolution. Bandha-s are very intricate tools of Yoga, that harness the fire within us to help nourish the inherent seeds of our capabilities and unlock hidden potential. The wise sages of the past relied on these subtle and sophisticated tools to nurture the latent potential lying beneath the subconscious layers of our psyche. When appropriately practised together with a sophisticated system of breath and visualization, they touch different layers of the human system and aid in our positive transformation. Owing to the great power it can harness, the Yogi-s showed great respect to these tools and only learnt and practised under watchful guidance. They also understood and considered all the pre-requisites these tools required, before practising themselves or teaching them to others.

The role and practice of the Bandha-s are extensively discussed in classical texts such as Haṭhayogapradīpikā and Śivasaṁhitā, as well as modern classics such as Yoga Makaranda of T Krishnamacharya.

These masters insist that integrating Bandha-s into Āsana practices were the best way to advance in our journey of spiritual transformation. Bandha-s were an essential way also to transform Āsana into a Mudrā (a spiritual energetic seal).

The purpose of this seminar is to assist you to experience traditional Āsana-s combined with the main Bandha-s of the Haṭhayoga, as taught in the classical tradition of Viniyoga.

This practice-only seminar will consist of a set of eight modules. Each practice will incorporate a structured Āsana practice that will combine the graceful movement of the body, integrated with the appropriate breathing, and the inclusion of the Bandha-s in the relevant positions.

You are advised to practice the practice as a home practice until the next module, and repeat the procedure for the entire month. After the month is over, participants will be able to continue to use any of these robust practices, depending on their individual needs, in consultation with their mentor or supervisor.

This seminar will contain a set of eight modules. Each module will consist of one session of around 75-90 minutes. It will be conducted by Dr Kaustubha Desikachar in English.
