The Haṭhayogapradīpikā is one of the most important classical texts of Yoga. It is a classic Sanskrit manual on Haṭhayoga, written by Svāmi Svātmarāma, a disciple of Svāmi Gorakṣanātha. It is among the most influential surviving texts on Haṭhayoga and is also one of the three classic texts of Haṭhayoga, the other two being the Gheraṇḍa-saṁhitā and the Śiva-saḿhitā.

Composed by the great Haṭhayogin, Svātmārāma, in the thirteenth century, the Haṭhayogapradīpikā has been an influential text to throw light on many of Yoga’s subtle and potent techniques. These not only include the more well-known practices such as Āsana and Prāṇāyāma, but also the not so well known, but formidable techniques such as Mudrā and Nāda.

In four inspiring chapters, this text provides valuable information to every aspiring Yoga practitioner, on all of these classical tools. There also exists a very famous commentary to this text called Jyotsnā, authored by another well known Yogi of the eighteenth century, Svāmi Brahmānanda. Both the Haṭhayogapradīpikā and its commentary, are a fountain house of useful and practical information that expounds the subtle intricacies of Haṭhayoga.

The purpose of this seminar is to provide a solid platform for serious practitioners to explore this topic of Haṭhayoga. The nuances clarified in the commentary pertaining to these topics will also be explored. Each session will offer a discussion on relevant themes with references to the verses from the Haṭhayogapradīpikā. Learning these will bring alive these ancient and precious teachings, in a practical manner that is also relevant to our modern times especially in their application to Yoga & Yoga Therapy.
