Let us begin with the golden rules to live by when you were younger. Did these lessons make the world seem as simple as black and white? Always be kind, or honesty is the best policy. It would be best if you always were polite and well-mannered. Do these sound familiar to you?

Gaslighting is a method that abusive people use to control others through manipulation, distraction, or distortion of reality. It is a way to manipulate someone by psychological means into doubting their own sanity. The basis of gaslighting is in convincing someone that their memories, emotions, or beliefs are false. It can be hard to recognize and cope with, especially as it is happening. It creeps in slowly, and then your reality is unclear.

Gaslighters brainwash their victims and control them through coercion, making it extremely difficult for them (the victims) to resist or question the abuse. It can happen anywhere, be it at work, at home or with friends. Most often, though, gaslighting occurs in romantic relationships, especially where there is a power imbalance.

The tricky question is how you can identify it? There are certain red flags to look for, starting with what the gaslighter is saying.

Although there are many expressions that Gaslighters commonly use, we have compiled a list of some of twelve common gaslighting phrases to be aware of.

Most of us experience trauma in one way or another throughout our lives. It can be so from an excess of pain, abuse of partners or any significant loss. The deep distress from trauma can happen at any age and can last almost all of our lives if unhealed. It severely impacts mental health, especially if this pain was experienced during childhood or adolescence. Even though we might be aware that certain events in our lives were traumatising, we rarely do the heavy lifting to heal from traumatic events.

This is because painful emotions like grief, guilt, sadness, or betrayal are too intense for our minds to bear at the time they happen. Instead of processing, we bury those thoughts and feelings into our subconscious mind, where they continue to remain and wreak havoc. When we neglect trauma, we enable it to destroy our lives systematically.

Trauma is rarely healed by accident or chance. It would be best if you worked on healing your traumas and have a better life. You can only heal your mind through intentional actions and thoughts.

If you think you have done enough work and healed from your trauma or that your experiences were not that traumatising check out these vital signs of unhealed trauma.

Although there are many, we have compiled a list of ten of the most important signs of unhealed trauma!
